Born in Austin, TX, Sam Levy lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He is a painter working from direct perception with the landscape and figure.
Sam has exhibited with The Painting Center, NY; John Davis Gallery, NY; Sweet Lorraine Gallery, NY; The Bowery Gallery, NY; and Real Tinsel Gallery, Milwaukee, WI. In 2015, Sam participated in the Jentel Artist Residency, WY, and was The Ah Haa School of the Arts, Telluride, CO, Annual Benefit Honoree. In 2023, Sam was awarded a Hohenberg Faculty Travel Grant from the New York Studio School to study
ancient frescoes in Pompeii.
Over the past fifteen years Sam has taught painting and drawing, while maintaining a studio in Brooklyn. He has also worked in the landscapes of New York, the Hudson Valley, along the Maine coast, and the San Juan Mountains. From 2019-2022, Sam was the Evening Lecture Series Coordinator and the Assistant to the Dean, as well as Drawing Faculty at the New York Studio School.
Currently, Sam is an Instructor and Co-Atelier Head at the New York Studio School; and Adjunct Faculty at the Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY) in New York City.
