Sam Levy

Sam Levy is a painter whose work is rooted in drawing, memory, and direct perceptual experience.

The image of the figure, historically and as a direct interaction, is a primary interest for him. Simirlarly, the image of still life, trees, and skies, are a major thread. Every work is the result of a search happening on the canvas.

Sam has spent significant time working in the landscape, including the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Montana, and upstate New York. He participated in the Jentel Artist Residency, WY, in 2015. In 2023, Sam was awarded a Hohenberg Travel Grant to study ancient frescoes in Pompeii, Italy.

Currently, Sam teaches drawing and painting at the New York Studio School and the Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY) in New York City.
